Quality Board for Higher Education in Iceland

Quarterly Update on European Higher Education and Quality Assurance

The Quality Board regularly gathers information on publications and upcoming events that are disseminated by international organisations in the Higher Education Sector. These may be of interest to those working in Higher Education, especially those working in Quality Assurance. Below, please find descriptions of two publications of possible interest, as well as links to the relevant resources.

Doctoral education

The European University Association has published a survey report titled Doctoral education in Europe: current developments and trends (available here). It provides an up-to-date overview of important developments in doctoral education in Europe based on responses from 28 countries. The report outlines the strategic priorities and the main thematic areas in which European universities are engaging in the field of doctoral education, as well as providing insights into the current situation of postdoctoral researchers in these countries.

Part-time (sessional) staff

A recent article in Inside Higher Ed (available here) titled Investing in Part-Time Faculty Success Supports Student Success aims to understand the various goals and motivations of these key contributors to the educational mission to ensure that they feel valued, recognised, supported and included in college operations. The article also suggests ways to support these members of staff, including through professional development opportunities and dedicated physical work spaces.
