Quality Board for Higher Education in Iceland

Board Transition

Dr Andrée Sursock has stepped down from the Quality Board for Icelandic Higher Education after seven years of service. As Board Chair from November 2017 to May 2023, she led the development and implementation of QEF2. Her knowledge and expertise in the field of quality assurance has been of great influence on the higher education sector in Iceland, with focus on enhancement and accountability. The Board thank her for her enthusiastic commitment and contribution to bringing the Icelandic higher education sector its current state of maturity.  Dr Sursock remains a Senior Adviser at the European University Association (EUA).

We are delighted to announce that Professor Crichton Lang, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of the Highlands and the Islands, and former Vice-Chair of the Quality Board (from November 2021) is now the Board’s Chair. As such, he has led the development of QEF3, bringing his in-depth knowledge of the Scottish QEF and personal experience of QEF1 and QEF2 in Iceland as well as a keen understanding of the role that university leadership plays in ensuring and enhancing quality. The Board welcomes Prof Lang as Chair and looks forward to working with him on further development and implementation of QEF3 over the upcoming cycle.

The Quality Board also welcomes Dr Elsa Núñez as a new member to the Board from September 2023 onwards. A professor of English, she has been the President of Eastern Connecticut State University since 2006, following more than 20 years as a senior administrator at such institutions as City University of New York (CUNY) and the University of Maine System.
